Day 123

Objective for today was to get all the paperwork prepared for my trip to the Brazilian embassy tomorrow in order to obtain a Brazilian Visa to go visit Graeme for Carnival. However right as I started this character who has been living in the hostel for the last month asked me if I wanted to go to the Santiago Market to buy stuff for a Sunday BB  Q so of course I put off the paperwork.

His name is Osama, he is Palestinian born in Jerusalem but has lived in NYC and LA for years before moving to Santiago 6 months ago. He used to chase the snow around the globe and snowboard for 9 months a year, as well as race motorcycles and his parents now live in Guatamala so he visits them and surfs a few times a year. Now he is remodeling his new house in Santiago so he is living in a hostel for two months. BBQ is a family passion for Osama and his family.

Santiago market was teeming with people and smells and stray dogs and all the types of food you can imagine. We spent a good hour walking it picking out vegetables and meat for our Arab chicken, flank steak and grilled vegetables with couscous.

Then the rest of the day was spent watching soccer matches and prepping the food before the multihour asado took place.

My paperwork didn’t do itself unfortunately and it sat waiting for tomorrow.
