Thought I would head back to Santiago today or somewhere else now that I did the two things I returned to Valpo for but.. the allure of the beach and the city kept me there for one more night. A group of us from the hostel went down to the ocean and took a 45 minute boat tour of the harbor of Valparaiso. It was pretty cool, we got to go out within a stones throw of the freighters and watched up close as they were unloaded.
We also got to go very close to all the Chilean navy ships and got a few waves from the crew, and finished cruising by this boat straight out of a history book. There were a bunch of seals playing around and it was interesting looking up at the hills of Valparaiso from on the water.
From there we headed back to Renaca for the a last day on the beach. I got some amazing body surfing in. I had never ridden waves quite like that. They were crashing so large I was actually was able to ride along the crest for a ways in which was the coolest feeling ever. However then the lifeguard pulled me out and I had to talk to police because the flags apparently were red and despite the fact that everyone was swimming we apparently weren't supposed to. However after me I watched them walk 20 more feet talk to someone else and continue every 20 feet for the next hour or so, so I no longer felt special.
We headed back from the beach and went to that same rooftop/patio restaurant overlooking the city for a glass of wine. Turns out three of the four of us enjoy chess and they had a set, awesome way to wind down the evening.
That night a group of us went out to a club. This is best picture we got of our group from that night:
Highlight of the night was when they started playing a song called Party Rock Anthem and for those of you not familiar there is a certain dance move to this particular song. I started doing it and the MC asked me to come up on the stage and do it for the whole club. Then he gave me a robot head which is commonly used and is the symbol for the group that does the song:
Final activity of the day. This club had multiple floors and at about 4am on the upper floor there was a full fledge aerobic dance class going and the room was packed with people who were doing it. It was the most bizarre and random experience... but yes I partook in the whole thing.
