Didn’t actually sleep in very much for how late we went to
bed. We walked around the hills of Valporaiso actually able to take in how cool
a place it was now that we were seeing it in the daytime for the first time.
We took a late afternoon trip up to ConCon two cities north
of Valpo to walk through the town and
sit on the beach and watch some surfers.
After dinner in Valpo we headed back out towards ConCon but
another 30 minutes farther north to see a Paul Van Dyk concert on the beach
taking place that night.
As we walked through the entrance we heard a sharp cracking
sound and were startled to see not 10 feet from us a guy getting tasered and
not by another security guard by another guy at the concert. Chaos ensued as
security guards rushed forward to try and break up the now 30-40 guys
exchanging blows. The taser went off about 4 more times including once on a
security guard. It was so bizarre. The guy with the taser did not come out able
to stand but took down about 4 other guys with him. The cops weren’t called,
what did happen is the security guards herded them off the beach premise and
the melee continued in the street.
Lucas and I decided we had seen enough and that we should go
into the show, but not before reenacting the fight infront of the welcome
poster. Some locals saw us taking this picture and all jumped in to be part of
the next recreation.
The show was fantastic but right as it ended it started to
rain, foiling our plans to sleep on the beach after the show. We had stashed
towels and a change of clothes near the entrance. So now it was 5am and we had
no way of getting home. But we somehow befriended some Chileans who offered us
a ride. A cab would have been easily over $60 so we gladly accepted and didn’t
mind being the 7th and 8th man to cram into their Toyota
Camry for the 45 minute drive home.
