Skipped school today to go take a guided tour of Caminito, which is the famous colored house section of Buenos Aires. It's in the neighborhood Boca which is home to the Boca Juniors Soccer Team. Seeing a match there has been #1 on my list of things to do since I got here, so hopefully I can go to a match soon. This neighborhood is also known as being one of the most dangerous at night, and even locals are told not to go there after sunset. It's really to bad, because I saw some amazing pictures today that were taken of Caminito at night. Here's my daytime picture though:
Afterwards the whole group stopped in a local cafe and split a couple liters of Quilmes beer. It took me a little while to get over it because it was a school outing, but thats just the difference in culture here I guess. La Boca is credited with the origin of Tango, so as we walked around there were couples Tango-ing everywhere. It was kind of touristy but still very cool. Most restaurants including ours had a couple preforming the Tango as well so we got to enjoy a nice show with our beer.
It was kind of overcast today, and the tour guide wasn't very good so I plan on going back to Boca soon with my tour book and doing a self-guided tour! Still was a great day, and now it is pouring rain which somewhat takes me back to Seattle.
PS- Happy Birthday Mom, wish I could be there celebrating with you and dad tonight!
