Day Twelve

Quick Update: Had first day of class today. It consisted of an oral exam, I almost placed into level three but at the last minute she crossed off the three and put me in two. School should be good, I'm excited.

Had my private tango lesson tonight followed by the group class. It's going very well for only taking 3 total instructions including the two from tonight. The instructor asked me what other dances I've studied!

On to what I actually wanted to write about, a little cultural aspect if you will. The trash system here is whack. They have very few public garbage cans here which are always overflowing and none of the residents or businesses have trash cans either. There are a few dumpsters few and far between. So what you get is a lot of litter, and a lot of this almost on every block:

Buenos Aires deals with this by having guys like this one walk around all day with these giant canvas sacks that they fill with trash, and then leave stacked on the sidewalk for the night.

And the city doesn't have garbage trucks so at night crews go around on trucks like these and heave the canvas sacks onto flatbeds or empty UHaul trucks.

It doesn't really make sense to me. I feel if the city invested in a fleet of garbage trucks and dumpsters or trash cans they could really clean up this beautiful city! Then again I don't know much on the economics of it, just seems like a readily apparent fact.
